Many glamping properties simply provide a unique place to sleep. At BLK147, we provide seclusion. Your stay is about much more than the tent. As a BnB, we combine the adventure of sleeping under canvas with the comfort, hospitality, and personal attention of a boutique BnB. Your stay includes a homemade breakfast, luxury linens, a thoughtfully equipped field kitchen, firewood, Wi-Fi, solar power, and personalized recommendations from hosts who live on the property and love sharing this special corner of Appalachia. It's the best of both worlds — the adventure of being immersed in nature with the comforts and hospitality of a true BnB.

Is this camping?

Not exactly. BLK147 is rustic luxury glamping. You'll sleep beneath canvas surrounded by forest sounds — but on a real queen mattress with luxury bedding, breakfast each morning, and thoughtful comforts while still experiencing the quiet and beauty of the mountains.

Where is BLK147 located?

BLK147 is in Turtletown, nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of East Tennessee, approximately two hours from Chattanooga, Knoxville, Asheville, and Atlanta — a private property within the Cherokee National Forest proclamation area, located near the Tennessee, North Carolina, and Georgia state lines, making it easy to explore three regions during your stay.

Is BLK147 adults only?

BLK147 is designed as a peaceful retreat for adults seeking quiet, rest, and nature. We ask that all guests are 25 or older. Please contact us for exceptions.

Question 5

Are there bears or other things that go bump in the night?

Accepted Answer

You're staying in the mountains, so wildlife is part of the experience — but you don't need to worry. BLK147 is surrounded by a predator fence designed to deter large wildlife. Plus, our hardworking livestock guardian dogs watch over the property. The only thing you'll likely encounter after dark is one of our big, friendly, slightly drooly dogs making their evening rounds.

Will there be bugs or critters?

Occasionally — but so far, they've all been terrible at making reservations. Because BLK147 is tucked into the forest, an occasional insect may wander into a guest room despite our best efforts. It's simply part of life in the mountains. Thankfully, most of our tiny neighbors are outside, where you'll enjoy butterflies, birds, tree frogs, a rascally rabbit, and magical summer evenings filled with lightning bugs.

Is BLK147 quiet?

Accepted Answer

It depends on what you mean by quiet. You won't hear highways, sirens, or the constant hum of city life. Instead, you'll be immersed in the natural soundtrack of the mountains. Depending on the season, that may include tree frogs, katydids, crickets, owls calling through the forest, leaves rustling in the breeze, and occasionally the distant howl of a coyote on a nearby ridge. During the day, you'll occasionally hear the nostalgic whistle of the scenic train echoing through the valley. It's not the absence of sound — it's the absence of everyday noise.

Is BLK147 suitable for guests with mobility limitations?

Accepted Answer

Because BLK147 is built into the mountains with natural terrain, it isn't a good fit for guests with mobility limitations.

Do the tents/rooms have bathrooms?

Accepted Answer

All rooms have a private detached outhouse — or as we like to call it, the original composting toilet. Whisper "Hollar" also has a private outdoor shower, and yes, it has HOT WATER!

Do you have cell service?

Accepted Answer

Cell service varies by carrier. T-Mobile generally works here. This is a great place to consider a digital detox.

Every guest room includes: luxury queen bed with premium linens, pillows, comforter, and extra blankets, continental breakfast each morning, fresh hot breakfast sandwiches served on your schedule, coffee and tea, shared gourmet field kitchen with pots, pans, dishes, utensils, and cooking basics, spices, oil, eggs, and items to make a light meal, drinking water from our 300' deep artisan well, shared fire pit with firewood and s'more kits (when safe and no fire restrictions apply), Wi-Fi at the field kitchen, solar generator to charge your phone, lanterns, and outdoor lounge chairs. Whisper "Hollar" also includes: private hot outdoor shower, bath towels and washcloths, and shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.

What is there to do in the area?

One of the best parts of staying at BLK147 is that you're surrounded by some of the Southeast's most scenic outdoor adventures. Popular activities include whitewater rafting on the Ocoee River, scenic train rides, driving the Cherohala Skyway, hiking in the Cherokee National Forest, mountain biking and gravel cycling, fishing, boating and paddleboarding on nearby lakes, and exploring charming mountain towns like Tellico Plains, Blue Ridge GA, and Murphy NC. Many of our guests never leave the property — they spend their days reading, watching birds, enjoying a campfire under the stars, and simply slowing down. Sometimes the best activity is doing absolutely nothing.

What is the road to your property like?

A long dirt driveway that has a 13% grade at points. AWD and 4WD vehicles will zoom right up. If your car doesn't like to climb, you may prefer to park in one of our lower parking areas.

Can you drive to the tent?

Accepted Answer

A small 4WD and ORV may be able to drive on the paths to the tents. Enduro or adventure motorcycles can drive to the tents.

Question 15

How far is the walk/hike to the rooms/tents?

Accepted Answer

All guest rooms are reached by a short hike from the parking area. Whisper "Hollar" is 1–2 minutes. The Prospect is 3–5 minutes and includes a short climb with a 70' elevation gain. Good hiking boots and walking poles are recommended.

Should we buy groceries before arriving?

Accepted Answer

There is a Dollar General about 1 mile away on Rt. 68 to the south. The nearest grocery store is in Copperhill. Note: this area has restrictions on liquor — bring it with you.

What time is check-in?

Accepted Answer

4–6 pm. For late check-ins, let us know when you're on your way — things do happen on the road, like "Look at that cool bar."

What time is check-out?

2 pm. We never want our guests to feel rushed — sleep in, have your coffee, and lounge before returning to life.

Can I arrive after dark?

Accepted Answer

Not a good idea. Forest trails are much easier to learn in daylight.

Can I bring my dog?

Accepted Answer

Please contact us before booking. We have working guardian dogs whose job is to keep strange dogs at bay.

The forecast always calls for rain.

Accepted Answer

Our typical summer weather pattern is a possible very quick rain shower in the afternoon. A 30% chance of rain means a 30% chance of a quick shower — not usually a washout.

Question 22

What if there is severe weather?

Accepted Answer

Storms, knock on wood, are usually ripped apart by the mountains. If an alert is issued for East Polk County, please come to the basement of the cabin for a storm party or just to hang out until it passes. Our German Shepherd Panzer will be in the shower shaking — he will appreciate your support.
